Although it is possible to get “internet famous” with your blog purely through your own writing skills or through word of mouth, you will find that it is much easier to experience some success in blogging if you have the search engines on your side. Clearly, we’re not talking about sending flowers and chocolate to Google and Bing, but rather a bit of SEO.

Now, there are many (many!) different methods of performing search engine optimization for your site, and some of them can be rather confusing, especially if you’re new to the game. That’s why we’re going to enlist some help.

Arm yourselves with the heaviest-duty SEO weapons and you’ll surely come out on top. Fortunately, those big guns are listed below – take your pick!

#1 – SEMrush

SEMrush is one of the most well-known (and therefore most used and trusted) SEO tools around. And there’s good reason for this. If you choose SEMrush, you know you’re in for a great addition to your arsenal, but this will come with a pretty heavy price point.

You can use SEMrush to help with your keywords; it allows you to check out your competitors’ key strategies, find you new and lucrative keywords to target, help with paid search strategies, and even chart your social stats. Like we said, it’s not cheap: the most popular plan is the “Guru”, and this will generate up to 5000 reports a day at the cost of roughly $1500 per annum.

#2 – SEO Analyzer

At the other end of the price spectrum, the functionally-named SEO Analyzer is completely free, providing a report of up to three different pages for the low, low price of zero. Now clearly it can’t quite live up to the work produced by SEMrush, but as it’s free it’s pretty impressive!

You’ll get three different reports: a site analysis, competitor analysis, and a content marketing analysis. These reports will contain a number of recommendations in addition to telling you exactly how you’re doing, and they can be downloaded as PDFs so you can access them whenever you like.

#3 – SE Ranking

This one falls somewhere in the middle of the previous two options when it comes to price: the regular plan for SE Ranking will set you back a little under $100 a year, and this will net you the ability to track up to 50 different keywords and look after up to five separate websites.

SE Ranking allows you to track your site’s rankings across the Big Three – that’s Google, Bing and Yahoo – and even lets you boil down to the specifics, such as your success at national, regional and even city levels. You can also check out your competition, looking at how your rankings stack up against up to five competitors over time. Useful stuff for a reasonable price!
